Bookworm Monday (a little late)

uuugh what a week! And with all that you'd think that I had no time for reading but hey....this is me and I seem to be able to find time for things that I really shouldn't be able to :S So the other month I joined 'Bound Together' on http://www.goodreads.com/ It's this amazing book club just for women and each month they pic 4 books from the chosen categories. Everyone puts in their books for each categories and everyone votes on which books and its all very sociable and great! They've made me feel so welcome and there all so lovely (Big shout out to all the girls over there!) So this week we are reading Charlotte's Web by E.B White, I Am Legend by Richard Matheson and Beach Trip by Cathy Holton. I started Charlotte's Webb this week...
I can't believe I've never read it before?! It's such a good book! I love Wilbur I think he is adorable and I can totally relate to Fern in wanting to save the runty pig. I haven't finished it yet because I'm reading Rumor Has It by Jill Mansell at the same time (more on that in a sec) but I love the bit in it when Wilbur is lonely and wants someone to play with and he asks the lambs....

'Will you please play with me?' he asked.

'Certainly not,' said the lamb. 'In the first place, I cannot get into your pen,as I am not old enough to jump over the fence. In the second place, I am not interested in pigs. Pigs mean less than nothing to me.'

'What do you mean, less than nothing?' replied Wilbur. 'I don't think there is anything as less than nothing. Nothing is absolutely the limit of nothingness. It's the lowest you can go. It's the end of the line. How can something be less than nothing? If there was something less than nothing, then nothing would not be nothing, it would be something-even though it's just a very little bit of something. But if nothing is nothing, then nothing has nothing less than it is.'

'Oh be quiet!' said the lamb.

I think that is such a great little passage. I love how smart and well mannered all the animals are and how intellectual it is for a children's book. I wish I had read this or had it read to me as a child because I think it touches on so many issues in a way that is safe for children.

The other book I've been reading is Rumor Has It by Jill Mansell Description of Photo
This is such a fun read. I usually don't go fro chick lit but every now and again I cant resist a good girly book and I usually find my self with a Mansell book. I just love her easy fun style of writing and her characters all ways make me laugh. This book is about a woman who gets dumped by her boyfriend and then gets a job as a Girl Friday. She meets Jack but is determent not to get pulled in by his easy swagger and charm (thats what we girls always say!!) Anyway I haven't finished it so I'm sure by this time next week I'll be able to do a proper review on both these books and hopefully I Am Legend too! Till then....Happy Reading!!

P.S I've got some very exciting news that I should hear about tomorrow one way or another. So tomorrow should be either yey!!....blah blah blah, Or aww never mind but blah blah blah anyway :)

What books have you read this week? Are you part of bookclub or have any favourite books you'd like to share?

  1. I just joined an online book club recently, we are reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, I am really enjoying it! But I don't think I will be able to keep up with the book club lol I'm not getting through books as much as I would like these days.

I've read Charlotte's Web a couple of times when I was younger but I have never read a Jill Mansell, I'm not one for chick lit either but I should definitely have a look next time I'm in the mood to read something lighthearted :)

  2. @Cait The Hunger Games are my all time favourite teen book! I've just read them and did a review on past Bookworm Mondays...take a look. They are incredible!
